
Key Duties of the Role
A. Safeguarding Duties:
- Be fully aware of safeguarding principles as they apply to vulnerable children within the role.
- Ensure that any concerns regarding safeguarding or child protection are communicated to the designated staff member in charge of child protection.
B. Set High Expectations to Inspire, Motivate, and Challenge Pupils:
- Create a safe and stimulating environment for pupils, based on mutual respect.
- Set challenging goals for students of all backgrounds, abilities, and dispositions.
- Model positive attitudes, values, and behaviors expected from students.
- Guide students to reflect on their progress and identify emerging needs.
C. Demonstrate Strong Subject and Curriculum Knowledge:
- Have a deep understanding of the relevant subject(s) and curriculum areas, fostering and maintaining student interest in the subject while addressing misconceptions.
- Employ a variety of teaching styles to engage students and ensure effective learning in preparation for exams.
D. Plan and Deliver Well-Structured Lessons:
- Encourage a love of learning and foster intellectual curiosity among students.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of an inclusive, engaging curriculum within the relevant subject(s).
E. Adapt Teaching to Meet the Needs of All Pupils:
- Understand how various factors can hinder a pupil’s ability to learn and find strategies to overcome these barriers.
- Be knowledgeable about the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs, high ability students, English language learners, and those with disabilities. Use and evaluate distinctive teaching approaches to support and engage them.

- Use assessments to monitor and track student achievement, progress, and attainment.

Secondary Teacher – Mathematics Person Specification
Essential Qualifications:
- Educated to degree level
- Recognized teaching qualification (e.g., B.Ed, PGCE)
- Qualified Teacher Status
Desirable Qualifications:
- Knowledge of IB Mathematics (for acting as an EE Supervisor)
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience
- Experience working with children with special needs
Professional Knowledge and Understanding:
- Knowledge of National Curriculum for England, GCSE/IGCSE, IBDP, or A-level
- Understanding the relationship between planning, assessment, monitoring, and target setting to maintain high achievement levels.
Professional Skills:
- Proficient in using ICT to enhance teaching and learning
- Ability to teach Google Apps for Education, Microsoft Office (including Access)
- Ability to plan and collaborate effectively with colleagues
- Ability to communicate sensitively with parents
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Willingness to share expertise, skills, and knowledge to inspire others
